Bernice Viola Sander, 100, of Clinton, died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at home after 100 great years and will be missed by all her family.
Memorial Services will be 11:00am, Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Clinton Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting her obituary at www.snellzornig.com
Bernice “Beaner” Sander was born in Mankato, Minnesota on October 17, 1913 the daughter of Wyman and Hattie (Lilyquist) Kent. The family moved to Clinton where her father operated Kent’s Cash grocery store. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1932. Bernice married Delbert Sander in 1935 and raised five children, Gary (Carol) of Edmond, OK; Jan (Betty) of Huntington Beach, CA; Gilbert, dec’d. (Carol) of Stanwood, IA; Joan of Clinton, IA and Mylon (Yvette) of Dubois, WY; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
She worked at the chocolate factory and decorated many wedding cakes for friends at Sweetheart Bakery.
Bernice and Delbert musically entertained many folks in the area as part of the Ding-A-Lings and the Barber Shoppers at area nursing homes and in dance bands. She served Clinton High School Band parents for many years. She was the organist at the Clinton Church of Christ for almost 40 years. Family attended her 100th birthday last October.
Many winters were spent in South Texas at Orange Grove RV Park enjoying the winter climate and many friends there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Vivian, a son, Gilbert, and infant daughter and a granddaughter, Debi.
