Leona Henrietta Rickert, 101, of The Alverno Health Care Facility, died Saturday. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Clinton, with the Rev. Wayne Brinkman officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bellevue.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Dr. Jon Clifford Lahann, Gary Christiansen, Lynn Christiansen, Rickert Christiansen, Don E. Horst, Gregory Kovaciny, Tod Leighton Elliott, Chad Allen Elliot, Donald Ockelmann, Richard Clausen and Darrell Nutter.
She was born Sept. 13, 1902, north of Miles to Louis and Mary Ploen Clausen. She married Elmer A. Rickert on November 23, 1922, in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1976.
She attended Miles High School. She was the first Parent Teacher Association president of the Charlotte schools, second district president and local president and historian of the Clinton American Legion Auxiliary, Post 190. She was a Poppy Day volunteer for decades, a member of the Gateway Barracks Auxiliary, World War 1 and a Pink Lady volunteer at Mercy North Hospital. She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and served in the Mary-Martha Society, the Ladies Aid, Luther Women's Missionary League, Quilting Bee and Over-50 Club. She moved to the Alverno Health Care Facility in 1993.
In 2002, she was honored as an Iowa centenarian by Gov. Tom Vilsack.
She served as an order control clerk with Burpee Seed Co. for 27 years before retiring in 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Arlene) Lahann of Clinton; a daughter-in-law, Mrs James (Norene) Elliott of Rochester, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beulah Ockelmann of Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, a daughter, two grandsons, two sisters and five brothers.
