LOUIS M. HESS

Louis M. Hess, 70, of 317 27th Ave. N., died last night in Mercy hospital

A requiem high mass will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Irenaeus church. An 8:30 a.m. prayer service in the Delaney funeral home will precede the mass.

Burial with military graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Calvary cemetery in Ottumwa. Pallbearers will be Bill Crowell, Joe McKenrick, Vic O’Connor, Frank Scofield, Vernon Witt and Don Shaw.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday in the funeral home where St. Irenaeus parishioners will recite the rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Hess was born June 3, 1898 in Ottumwa, the son of Peter J. and Anna E. Ford Hess. He married Mabel Anderson, November 27, 1919, in Ottumwa. He was a veteran of W.W. One. He retired from Air Control Inc. of Clinton in 1962.

His membership included the Sheet Metal Workers Local 91 of Rock Island, St. Irenaeus church, charter member of the O.B. Nelson American Legion post 3 of Ottumwa, the Clinton VFW and the Humphrey Paulson American Legion post of Clinton.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, L.R. (Dick) of Clinton, Charles E. of Cedar Rapids, and James P. of Ridgecrest, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. George (Margaret) Mersch of Atwater, Calif.; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas J. in Florida, Joseph P. of Sunnyvale, Calif., and John B. of Niles, Ill.; and four sisters, Sister Mary (Ann) Hess. BVM. of Great Falls, Mont., Mrs. Raymond (Magdalen) Amos, Mrs. Rees (Monica) Hoy, and Mrs. Harold (Mary) Dobruse, all of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by three children and one sister and one brother.
