Irene D. Bechtel age 75 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday Aug. 20, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics in Iowa City. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday 1:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home. Irene was born on Aug. 13, 1939 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Dick and Louise (Lewis) Meros. She married Jerry Bechtel on June 15, 1963 in Clinton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, playing cards with family and friends, and watching her soap operas. Irene was a kind and giving person. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with all of her grandchildren. What was especially meaningful to her, was that she was able to raise her young grandsons.

Irene is survived by her husband, Jerry Bechtel of Clinton; three children, Rich (Sayha) Bechtel, Peter (Cindy) Bechtel, and Gina Calderon all of Clinton; 8 grandchildren, Michael, Carmen, Brad, Vanessa, Hang, Justin, Soda, and Olivia; and two sisters, Mary Ann (Iraj) Tahmasebi of Los Angeles, CA and Rosie Aiden of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
