Joseph F. Clancy age 46 of Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Clinton, died Sunday July 27, 2014 at his mother’s home in Clinton, surrounded by his family. A gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday Aug. 2nd from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. He will be remembered as a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. Memorials may be given to the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City or St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Joe was born on Feb. 23, 1968 in Rockford, IL, the son of Ronald and Eileen (Clancy) Van Buer. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1987. He served in the US Air Force during Operation Desert Storm from 1987-1991. He received his B.A. Degree in Sociology from the University of Northern Iowa in 1996. Joe was a senior underwriter for United Fire & Casualty in Cedar Rapids. Joe loved his job, especially the people he worked with. His loves in life were his family and numerous friends, bicycling, traveling, and his love for classic books and music. He was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
Joe is survived by his mother, Eileen Clancy of Clinton; three sisters, Josie (Mark) DeVries of Bellevue, Anna Kash of Clinton, and Nancy (Eric) Dahlhauser of Nashville, TN; a brother, John Van Buer of Nashville, TN; 10 nieces & nephews and 6 great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
