Harold E. Welcher age 74 of Clinton, died Tuesday July 15, 2014 at Mercy North Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 6:00 PM Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the First United Presbyterian Church, Clinton. A potluck dinner will follow in the church hall. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at the church. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Memorials may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church or Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Harold was born on August 13, 1939 in Plainwell, MI, the son of Paul and Barbara (Nyberg) Welcher. He graduated from Plainwell High School in 1958. He married Judy Flack on September 22, 1961 in Clinton. Harold worked as a machine operator for E.I. DuPont for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, where he was a Deacon and Ruling Elder. He went on Mission trips to Mexico to build houses with the First United Methodist and also to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in the Dakota’s with the Fulton Reformed Church. He was a member of the Clinton AMVETS, Eastern Star, R.S.V.P., and the founder of Southside Development, now known as Hearts and Hands. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending his grandchildren’s activities and woodworking. He was a tireless volunteer. He loved participating in sports, especially bowling and playing baseball, volleyball and basketball.

Harold is survived by his wife, Judy of Clinton; three children, Charlene (Jerry) Bentley of Mill Creek, WA, Paula (Tim) Riewerts of Kansas City, KS, and Chris (Alicia) Welcher of Tracy, CA; five grandchildren, Cody Riewerts of St. Louis, MO, Paige Riewerts of Kansas City, KS, Christopher (Catherine) Bentley of Mill Creek, WA, Nate Kountz of Tracy, CA, and Grace Bentley of Mill Creek, WA; a brother, Randy Welcher of Clinton, IA; and a sister, Kathryn of Plainwell, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joan, and a brother, Lloyd. Online condolences may be left at www.apefh.com.
