Norma Charlene (Mrs. Herbert) Manning, 89, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Saturday morning, August 9, 2014, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Norma Charlene Manning was born June 30, 1925, to Emil A. and Hanna C. (Thielen) Behrens, near Preston, Iowa. After graduating from Welton High School, Norma worked as a payroll clerk for Burpee Seed Company in Clinton, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Herbert W. Manning on September 2, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. The couple farmed for 6 years near Petersville, Iowa, and 39 years north of DeWitt. They retired to DeWitt in 1992. Herbert preceded her in death on October 28, 2002.

Norma was a member Grace Lutheran Church and its Elizabeth Circle. She loved spending time with her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Norma enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and working in her yard.

Norma is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Richard Reser, Bristow, Iowa, and Luanne and Ted Heaton, Ohio, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Kari (Greg) Reser-Rausch, Jason (Kay) Reser, Eric (Heather) Heaton, Leah Reser, Melissa (Patrick) Trainor, Katie (Greg) Platts, and Luke (Paige) Heaton; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Dylan Rausch, Davis and Nora Reser, Jack and Gabriel Heaton, Nolan Reser, Halle and Duke Trainor, and Aiden Platts; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Herbert, she was preceded in death by a son Mark, in February of 1964; and her sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine (Clyde) Madsen.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Ron Rafferty officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Jason Reser, Eric and Luke Heaton, Patrick Trainor, Greg Platts, and Darin Trees. Greg Rausch will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or Westwing Place.
