Wilbur E. Bentrott, age 87 of Wheatland, passed away on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt. Memorial services will be held on Monday August 11, 2014 at 10:30 A.M at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland with Reverend John Cofield officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday August 10, 2014 at Chapman's in Wheatland from 2-4 P.M. There will be a Masonic Service held at 1:30.
Wilbur was born on May 18, 1927 in Wheatland to William and Ester (Ihns) Bentrott. He married Elizabeth Long on January 15, 1947 in Cedar Rapids.
Wilbur was active in the Mason's and was a volunteer fireman and ambulance driver. He also was on the town council and school board, as well as the Clinton County Sheriff's Reserves. Wilbur was the Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1989 for the state of Iowa. He was the previous owner of Premium Oil Company and Bentrott Pontiac. Wilbur served his country in World War II and in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Craig (Karen) of Bettendorf; daughters, Dixie (James) Woolard of Wheatland, Kimberly (Roger) Vandewalle of DeWitt, and Kelley (Donald) Frazier of Ivoryton, CT.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Vernita Bolster of Walla Walla, WA. and Blanche Garwood of Cedar Rapids.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mervin.
