Obituary From “The Clinton Herald,” Thursday, July 31, 1969:

MRS. LOUIS M. HESS

A 9 a.m. requiem high mass will be celebrated at St. Irenaeus church Saturday for Mrs. Louis M. (Mabel) Hess, 73, who died Wednesday morning in Mercy hospital. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the Calvary cemetery at Ottumwa, Iowa.

A prayer service will precede the funeral at 8:30 a.m. in the Delaney funeral home. Friends may call after 8 p.m. today and members of the St. Irenaeus parish will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home to recite the rosary.

Pallbearers will be Clarence Brock, Weldon W. Fife, Bernard W. Mayer, Roland E. Runge, Donald H. Shaw and William R. Williams.

Mabel Ethel Pettit, who formerly resided at 327 27th Ave. N., was born on July 18, 1896 at Beacon, Iowa. She was married to Louis M. Hess on Nov. 27, 1919 in Ottumwa and had resided at Clinton for the past 28 years. She was a member of St. Irenaeus church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. George (Margaret) Mersch of Atwater, Calif. and three sons, L.R. (Dick) Hess of Clinton, Charles E. Hess of Davenport and James P. Hess of Palmdale, Calif., nine grandchildren and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters and one son.
