Francis E. "Buddy" Fier, 72, of Charlotte, died Sunday at the Iowa Veteran's Home, Marshalltown.
Visitation will be at the Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral liturgy is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Assumption Catholic Church, Charlotte. The Rev. Gary Beckman will be officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Sugar Creek.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Fier, Greg Fier, Ed Lichner, Beth Giesler, Bridget Lipske, Shawn Fier, Tom Fier and Ryan Fier.
He was born June 24, 1931, in Charlotte to Francis J. and Inga J. Christiansen Fier.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a truck driver for much of his life with Owl products in California and Prairie Concrete Products in suburban Chicago and was a retired member of the Teamsters Union.
He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Charlotte, the VFW, American Legion and AMVETS.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Frances Jean (Ron) Eades of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Mrs. Candance (Mike) Schnurr of Hastings, Mich., and Shannon of California; two grandchildren; a brother, Philip Fier of Huntley, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Margaret (George) Seifert of Branson, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
