Wayne E. “Gene” Nixon, 81, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Pallbearers will be Jim, Mark and Rick Cavaletti, Denny Stoddard, Trevor Lampe and Jack Whaley.

Gene was born October 12, 1932 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Edward and Mathilda (Hansen) Nixon. He was educated in the Clinton, Iowa Schools and was a Clinton High graduate. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1950 to 1954 in the Korean War.
Wayne was employed as a supervisor at the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for more than 35 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Clinton AMVETS, American Legion and Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Survivors include his sons, Eugene S. Nixon of Nashville, TN and Troy E. (Cindy “Beav”) Nixon of Clinton; grandchildren, Trevor, Bree, Danielle and Kinsey and sister, Nancy Lee (Jim) Cavaletti of Spring Valley, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and his brother.
