Marvis Marie Powell, 89, of Andover, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North facility on May 2, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, at Faith Lutheran Church in Andover. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the Church. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marvis was born December 9, 1924 in Van Buren Township the daughter of Paul and Lena (Boysen) Yaddof. She was a graduate of Preston High School. Marvis was united in marriage to Wilbur Powell on March 31, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Preston Iowa; Wilbur passed away on December 3, 1985.
Marvis was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Andover, Iowa. She worked for the Clinton Garment Factory as a sewing machine operator and ILGWU union steward for over 30 years. Marvis was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary - past presidents club and past member of the VFW and Moose.
Marvis was an exceptional seamstress and not just at work, she sewed many wedding dresses and clothes for family and friends. She also put together many quilts. When not sewing you could find her reading a good book or enjoying the outdoors, especially camping. She also enjoyed her card club. Above all she loved her family very much.
Marvis is survived by one son - Jeffrey Powell of Beaver Dam, WI., four grandchildren - Nick (Holly) Powell of Cedar Falls, IA., Tyler Powell of Clinton, Iowa, Jacob Powell of Beaver Dam, WI., Tanner Powell of Beaver Dam, WI.; one sister - LeAnne Barr of Clinton, IA., many nieces and newphews that she loved as well as many friends she made over the years.
Preceding Marvis in death were her parents, her husband Wilbur, her son- Rodney and sisters and brothers.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
