Richard H. "Dick" Black, 77, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon, June 21, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, Iowa.

Richard Harold Black was born March 30, 1937, in Huntington Park, California, to Harold and Ruth (Brandon) Black. He was educated in California. On August 9, 1959, Dick was married to the former Janis Fatchett in California. The couple resided in Buena Park, California for 36 years where they raised their family. Dick was employed by Northrop Grumman and retired following 33 years of service as a Proposal Coordinator. In 1994, Dick and Janis moved to Crystal Lake.

He loved to build model airplanes and boats. Dick was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and time he could spend with them.

Surviving are his wife, Janis; children, Jeff (Christy) Black of Kingsville, Missouri, Kim Palmer of Yorba Linda, California, and Craig (Meghan) Black of Donahue, Iowa; grandchildren, Alison (Brandon) Acree, Jeffrey (Sarah) Black, Aleigha (David) Cox, Matthew Black, Andrea Palmer, Melanie Palmer, Luke Palmer, Melissa Black and Stephanie Black; a great-granddaughter, Brynlee Acree; nieces and nephews; and best friends, Jim and Judy Salchak of California..

Preceding Dick in death were an infant daughter, Judith Ann; an infant granddaughter, his parents and a sister, Betty Smith.

A private family graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, with the Rev. Jeff Wartgow officiating.

Memorials may be made to the discretionary fund at First Congregational United Church of Christ of DeWitt.

Dick was a proud Lions Club member for many years and donated his eyes for research.
