Marian E. (Mrs. Don) Griebel, 85, of Grand Mound, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning, June 18, 2014, at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland, Iowa.

Mrs. Griebel, the former Marian Eloise Marlowe was born April 1, 1929, in Clinton, Iowa. She was the daughter of George and Vivian (Johnson) Marlowe. Marian graduated from Clinton High School and attended nurses training for two years. On October 1, 1950, she was united in marriage to Donald Otto Griebel in Clinton. The couple farmed at rural Calamus for many years. Marian also worked as a caregiver at the DeWitt Community Hospital for 37 years, retiring in 1999. Her husband preceded her in death on December 13, 1992.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bliedorn, Iowa. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed doing things for them. She especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren.

Surviving are children, Keith Griebel of Calamus and Karen (Virgil "Bud") Bailey of Davenport, Iowa; twin grand-sons, Jeff (Charity) and Jason Griebel and Chris (Becka) Griebel; great-grandchildren, Chayse and Kinzie; a speical cousin, Sharon Johnson of North Liberty, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, Marian was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Deb Griebel; her parents and sisters, Shirley Adams and Beverly Garrett.

There will be no visitation or service. Marian has donated her remains to the University of Iowa for medical research. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.
