Leon Adelbert “Bud” Tobey, 76, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, May 14, 2014, at home surrounded by his family.

Bud was born April 19, 1938, the son of Howard and Edna (Schlotfeldt) Tobey, in Clinton, Iowa. He attended DeWitt schools, graduating in 1956, and began farming at an early age. Bud served in the Army Reserves. On June 30, 1962, Bud was united in marriage to Joanne Adelle Havill, at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, Iowa. The couple resided in DeWitt most of their married life where they raised their family. Bud was employed by ALCOA, Riverdale, for approximately 10 years.

He was a lifelong farmer and took great pride in his farm. His strength and determination were an inspiration to those who knew him. His witty sense of humor and practical jokes brought smiles to many. Bud loved nothing more than farming with his sons and watching his children and grandchildren grow.

Bud will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 52 years, Joanne; 6 children, Joleen (Greg) Henningsen, DeWitt, Brad Tobey, DeWitt, Jill (Ross) Kleppe, Bennett, Julie (Kenny) Bloker, Clarksville, Jennifer (Jamie) Griem, Delmar, and Chad (Michelle) Tobey, Charlotte; 18 grandchildren, Ashten, Meghan, Skylar, Gretchen, and Brett Henningsen, Haley and Tanner Kleppe, Madison, Makenzie, MaKade, and Mollie Bloker, Taylor, Caitlyn, Paige, and Tobey Griem, Cole, Carleigh, and Carson Tobey; siblings, Terry (Mary) Tobey and Thera Unverzagt; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Gary.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. The Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, in the funeral home. The Rev. Ron Rafferty will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Iowa.

Pallbearers will be Greg Henningsen, Ross Kleppe, Kenny Bloker, Jamie Griem, Tanner Kleppe, and Brett Henningsen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Dohrmann, Frank Greve, Larry Williams, Harold Meggers, Mitch Krukow, Glenn McCulloh, David Cousins, Roland Petersen, Bill Allen, Jim Hofer, and Merv Crank.
