Rhea Jane McIntyre , 74, of Clinton, Iowa, succumbed to light chain multiple myeloma, November 20, 2013, at Arbor Grove Village Assisted Living Center in Greensburg , Indiana . Rhea Jane was the daughter of Beach Raymond and Rhea Jane (Norcott ) Northrop of Red Creek, New York. On May 4, 1957, Rhea Jane Northrop married Ronald E. McIntyre of Fair Haven, New York. Together they had 6 children which lead to 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In 1963 the family relocated to Houston , Texas, when Ron was transferred from General Electric in Syracuse, New York, to NASA Space Center in Texas, finally moving to Clinton, Iowa in 1968.
Growing up in the restaurant business, Rhea was most at home in her kitchen where she expertly prepared some of the most delicious dishes for her family and friends. No one ever left her table hungry and it was her way of showing how much she cared. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and in 1972 opened the Plaza Café closing her business in 1999 to retire. She cared about every customer that came through the door and her regular customers quickly became her friends. Community involvement and generously supporting community events was very important to her and she was always willing to help. On October 25, 2012, her husband of 55 years died.
On May 4, 2014 at 2 p.m. her ashes will be placed in their final destination according to her final wish to be cremated and buried with her lifelong partner. Minister Paul Willis will officiate a graveside service to celebrate Rhea and Ron’s life and burial at the Clinton Memorial Park cemetery for family and friends. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family.
Rhea is survived by her children Rhonda McIntyre (Kurt Hubbart), Renee (Dan)Holmes, Clinton, IA, and Jeff( Lori) McIntyre , Shelbyville, In., Ursula (Darin) McEleney, Cleveland, OH, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and daughters Lisa Carlson, and Narda Pingel.
