Leonard G. Green, 89, of DeWitt, died Thursday morning, April 3, 2014, at Wheatland Manor, in Wheatland, Iowa.

Leonard Gerard Green was born October 3, 1924, to Albert and Mary (McManus) Green, near Calamus, Iowa. He married Alice Ann Farrell on September 9, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The couple raised their family and farmed near Grand Mound for many years. He retired from farming and worked for the US Postal Service for 15 years where he was the rural route carrier for the Grand Mound area. In 1986 Leonard retired and the couple later moved to DeWitt.

Leonard was a member of SS. Philip and James Catholic Church in Grand Mound for many years. He was later a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Leonard was also a member of Right to Life, the Holy Name Society, and the Rural Letter Carriers Association. Leonard loved to sing, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan.

In addition to his wife, Alice, Leonard is survived by his children and their spouses, Cheryl (Jim) Whalen of Guttenberg, Leon (Debb) Green of Iowa City, Maureen (Dave) Mann of Underwood, Jeanine (Mark) Gannon of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois, Madonna (Brian) Farrell of Raleigh, North Carolina, and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Green; grandchildren, Lisa Hines and Mike and Chris Whalen, Jolene and Emily Green, Colleen, Ryan and Sean Mann, Bridget Amelio and Rebecca Mailey, Carrie and Austin Faur, and Kelly, Katie, Laura, and Brian Farrell; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Noah, Kylynn, Kylie, Lexi, and Kathleen; a sister, Mary Lee Green and sister-in-law, Therese Green both of DeWitt; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Green, a brother, Eldon Green, and a nephew, Joel Green.

Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Church. The Reverend Father Paul Connolly will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.
