The Clinton Herald Saturday December 21, 1907 p. 5 Clinton Business Man is no More A. Jensen, Well Known Fourth Street Grocer, passes Away Friday Night, after lingering Illness Face Cancer Cause Clintonite's Death Had Suffered from Malady Since Last March - Deceased Was Member of German Society and of Walhalla Lodge of Odd Fellows A. Jensen, the well known Clinton groceryman, is dead at his home 411 Eleventh avenue, death having been due to the ravages of a cancer on his face. The funeral will be held next Tuesday afternoon, with services at the late home at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. Seehase of the German Lutheran church. Interment will be made in Springdale cemetery. Mr. Jensen has suffered with the malady which resulted in his death since last March. For years he had been subject to a sort of erysipelas, which came and went, swelling his right cheek. Last March came what he and his relatives believed to be a recurrence of the erysipelas; but a malignant cancer developed, which spread rapidly, consuming the unfortunate man's face, and causing him almost intolerable pain, death bringing relief to the sufferer Friday night. Mr. Jensen was an old and highly respected resident of the city, and a long time business man, whose honesty in business and whose upright, sterling character had won for him the esteem and respect of all. He had been in the grocery business in Clinton for more than thirty years, formerly conducting a store on south Second street, near the present site of Curtis' Bros.' office. Later he removed to south Fourth street, and of late maintained a grocery establishment at the corner of Fourth street and Eleventh avenue. He was a native of Germany, having been born on the island of Fohr, in that kingdom, and is survived by his wife and five sons and daughters: Oscar, Rose, Arthur, Mary and Alma, all at home. Mr. Jensen was a member of Walhalla lodge of Odd Fellows, and of the German society.
