Madonna G. “Donna” Griswold of Clinton passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Bickford Assisted Living Center, Clinton. In following Donna’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Pape Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 9:30 A.M. until the service time on Tuesday. Burial will be at a later date in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.

Donna was born in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mayme (Mulligan) Griswold. She was a direct descendent of Edward and Margaret Griswold who settled in Windsor, CT in 1639 and later founded the colony of Hammonassett, now Clinton,CT.

Donna began her career as a teacher in Fulton, later teaching for two years in Frankfort, Germany. She returned to the states and worked for the Waterbury, Connecticut School System as a Teacher and Reading Consultant, retiring in 1991. She was a graduate of Clarke College, Dubuque, Iowa and received graduate degrees from Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT and the University of Connecticut. Her graduate studies were also taken at the University of Iowa, DePaul University, Chicago and St. Hilda’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, England.

Donna is survived by her sister, Shirley Sheridan of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Ava McFarlin of Riverdale, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Paul. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton.
