The Clinton Herald Thursday January 15, 1942 p. 12 David James Connell died at 1:15 o'clock this morning in his home here. The body reposes in the Fitzpatrick Funeral home until early this evening when it will be removed to the Connell homestead, five miles south of DeWitt on Highway 61. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's church, DeWitt, the Rev. John Moriarty officiating. Mr. Connell was born Feb. 24, 1867 in Ireland and came to this country when six weeks old. He parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Connell. He married Julia Callahan on Oct. 30, 1895 in Ida Grove. Surviving are his wife; five sons, James of Long Grove, Tim of DeWitt, Leo of Delmar, Vincent and Harold, both of McCausland; two brothers, C.J. of Sterling, Ill., John of Brookfield, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary McDonald of Sterling, Ill,. and Mrs. Theresa Mason of Sunnyside, Calif., and nine grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Thomas Tobin, preceded him in death.
Monday January 19, 1942 p. 8 Last rites for D.J. Connell were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rev. John Moriarty celebrated the requiem mass. Members of the children's choir sang. Pallbearers included Henry Costello, DeWitt, Robert T. Troy,Davenport, Martin Lillis, Thomas Sheridan, John Brophy and George Tiedje, all of Long Grove. Burial was in St. Ann's cemetery at Long Grove with the Rev. D.J. Ryan officiating at the grave. A number of relatives from Sterling and Amboy, Ill., were here for the service.
