Jay L Bentley, 88, of Camanche, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 7, 2014 at his home peacefully surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Tuesday February 11, 2014 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Camanche VFW. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Bentley, AJ Kravatta, Bryson Dolan, Breten Dolan, Kodee Waterman, and Becky Harper. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chris Kravatta, Eric Bentley, and Kaycee Butz. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00am to the service time at the funeral home. Per Jay’s wishes please dress casual and comfortable.

Jay L Bentley was born on December 19, 1925, in Clinton Iowa, the son of Buren and Dora (Biggs) Bentley. He married Faye Archer on April 27, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa.

Jay was a United States Marine veteran serving in World War II. He served in the Asiatic Pacific theater and participated in action against the enemy in Guam and the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was the last living Iwo Jima veteran from Iowa. He was honored and enjoyed going on the Honor Flight in 2010 with his son Mike.

Jay worked at Clinton Corn/ADM for 33 years.

Jay was a member of the Clinton Community Christian Church and a member of the Camanche VFW. He enjoyed going on his daily walks, hunting, fishing, camping and playing baseball.

Jay is survived by his wife: Faye of Clinton; his children: Linda (Joe) Graves of Clinton, Michael (Debbie) Bentley of Camanche, Danial (Kim) Bentley of Camanche, Judy Cary of Princeton, Iowa, Nancy (Andrew) Determann of Camanche, Mary (Bill) Dolan of Fulton, Il, Holle (Sue) Bentley of Seattle, Washington, Barbie (Jim) McGrogan of Clinton, and Jay (Brenda) Bentley of Camanche, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren, and his beloved fur baby Winnie.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

Memorials can be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
