Neal A. Abbott age 76, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 22,, 2014 at the Church of the Open Door, Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the church and from 11:00 A.M. until the service time Saturday, also at the church. Casket bearers will be his grandsons, and a family friend, Don Gordon. Cremation rites will follow. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Neal was born in Whiteside County on March 2, 1937, the son of LaClieve and Gertrude (Housenga) Abbott. He attended Clinton Schools. Neal married Anita Treakle on June 25, 1966 in Morrison. He was employed at the Climax Company for 18 years, 3M in Cordova for 30 years and following his retirement from 3M he worked at Home Depot for 6 years. He was a member of the Church of the Open Door, the NRA and was an avid collector of swords. He had been a Boy Scout leader and a volunteer with Tree’s Forever. Neal enjoyed being with family and friends and always had an ear to listen.

Neal is survived by his wife Anita; five children, John (Jessica) Abbott of Fulton, Nicole Abbott of Clinton, Craig (Lisa) Abbott of Camanche, Russ Abbott of Clinton and Brandy; eight grandsons, Logan, K.C., Brandin, Lane, Ryen, twins Cooper and Carter and Jordan and two great-granddaughters, Narrah and Klaire. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James; three brothers, Raymond, Ross and Donald “Duke” Abbott and a sister, Jewell Hoxtell. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
