Mike A. Maxa, 84, of Clinton, passed away, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services will be 10:00am, Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the First Congregational Church. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and son-in-laws. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Following the services his body will be cremated and a private family burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com

Mike Allen Maxa was born on July 21, 1929 in Seaforth, Minnesota, the son of Edward E. and Alvina H. (Glassman) Maxa. He graduated from Wabasso High School in 1947 in Wabasso, Minnesota. He married Dianne Werner on October 10, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mike was honorably discharged from the Army in 1950 and the Air Force in 1956.

Mike worked for Northwest Airlines in Tampa, Florida and Rochester, Minnesota. He was circulation manager for the Des Moines Register transferring to Clinton in 1969. He also served as the manager of the Greyhound Bus Depot and after retiring drove the school bus for the Clinton Community School District.

Mike was an active member of the First Congregational Church where he served on many boards and as trustee. He was a lifelong member of the Clinton Lions Club where he served as President for two terms. He was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan. He enjoyed bowling but most of all, he loved his four grandchildren. In his early days he loved to travel and served as a manager of little league baseball in Des Moines.

Mike is survived by his wife: Dianne of Clinton; two daughters: Wendy (Steven) Jennings of Clinton, and Kerry (Bill) Espey of Clinton; four grandsons: Brady & Reid Jennings and Jacob and Nick Espey; three sisters: Marvel (Glen) Schueller of Vesta, Minnesota, Marilyn (Neil) McKay of Rochester, Minnesota, and Ruthie Bliss of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; one brother: Rev. Vern (Marilyn) Maxa of Brainerd, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Donald, Russell, Gordon, and Neil, and one sister: Doris Lohre.

Memorials can be made to the First Congregational Church and Clinton Lions Club.
