Dr. A. A. "Bud" Frommelt, 85, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday afternoon, December 4, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Alton Alois Frommelt was born November 5, 1928 in Guttenberg, Iowa to Alois and Odelia (Neiland) Frommelt. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Dr. Frommelt attended Loras College in Dubuque and graduated from the University of Iowa School of Dentistry. On June 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary Virginia Schuster at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Dubuque. The couple resided in DeWitt since 1957, where they raised their family and established a dental practice. Virginia preceded him in death on May 25, 2002. He was a longtime and active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, where he served as a lector, member of the finance board, and parish council. Dr. Frommelt was a longtime member and Past President of the Iowa Dental Association. He served on the library board in DeWitt for over 37 years and was a Grand Knight and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 of DeWitt and the DeWitt Noon Lions Club. Dr. Frommelt enjoyed serving the people of the DeWitt area in his dental practice for over 50 years. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and traveling. Surviving are children, Mary Ann Green of Dubuque, Carol (Larry) Green of Bettendorf, Iowa, Rita (Paul) Heacock and Nancy (Ed) Bandstra of Dubuque, and Steve (Mia) Frommelt of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Jolene and Emily Green, David (Crysta), Kendra and Laura Green, Mitch and Matt Heacock, Adam and Elizabeth Bandstra, and Thomas, Joe, Maria and Sarah Frommelt; a great-granddaughter, Noelle Green. In addition to his wife, Virginia, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dick and a son-in-law, Steve Green. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2013 with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 1:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Burial and Military Rites will follow at the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Education Foundation. Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
