Dwight J. “Whitey” Wiersema, 95, of Fulton, Illinois, passed away, Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Harbor Crest, Fulton, IL. Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. Pallbearers will be Doug, Dave, Dan, and Philip Schroeder and Bradley Bowen, David Read and Eric Meath.

Dwight was born December 7, 1917 in Fulton, Illinois, the son of Jacob and Anna (Sikkema) Wiersema. He was a graduate of Holland High School, Holland, MI. He married Mildred “Milly” Schroeder on October 12, 1940 in Morrison, Illinois; she died June 4, 2007.

Dwight was a WWII, United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion, had been a Fulton School Board Member, was a trustee for the Fulton Fire Department and Flood Control District and was member of the Fulton Country Club.

He had been employed as a farmer his entire life, on the farm he was born on.

Survivors include his daughters, Nancy (Dan) Hartman of Clinton, IA and Beth (Terry) Bowen of Albany, IL; grandchildren, Penny (Charlie) Morgan of Franklin, NC; Jennifer (Eric) Meath of Machesney Park, IL; Tara (David) Read of Fulton, IL and Bradley (Elise) Bowen of Clinton, IA; great-grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Alexis and Tyler Meath, Ava Bowen and Brady and Jessa Read; his sister, Donna (Ed) Walters of Grand Haven, MI and brother, Kenneth (Betty) Wiersema of Zeeland, MI.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be made the American Cancer Society or the Clinton Humane Society.
