Lorin “Jake” Barten, 63, of Clinton, died Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the University of Hospitals and Clinics – Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony White, Brian Barten, Shawn Barten, Mike Bielema, Bob Barten, Chris Holgreve. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-8:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory.

Lorin Levi Barten was born on March 21, 1950 in rural Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of Robert and Caroline Ethel (Krabbenhoft) Barten. He was a 1968 graduate of Sabula High School. He married Jan Duncan on November 12, 1971 in Clinton.

Jake was employed with International Paper for over 33 years retiring in 2002.

Jake enjoyed racing cars, attending car shows, deer hunting and trapping raccoons and muskrats.

Jake is survived by his wife: Jan of Clinton; one daughter: Sherrise Barten of Camanche, two sons: John (Rhonda) Barten of Camanche, and Jason (Kim) Barten of Camanche; three granddaughters: Sam, Tabitha, and Brooke; five sisters: Lola Wilkens of Clinton, Lila (Bill) Dinning of Southern Illinois, Ronda (Tom) Tietjens of rural Bartonville, Rojean (Gary) Behrens of rural Clinton, and Lynette (Dennis) Carnicle of South Dakota three brothers: Ronald (Marsha) Barten of Calamus, Roy (Vi) Barten of Minnesota, and Lloyd (Sandy) Barten of Miles; numerous nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-laws: Steve Brandenburg of rural Clinton and Gary (Nancy) Duncan of Longmont, Colorado.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and one sister: Rose Brandenburg.
