Mrs. Eleanor E. Schatz, 89, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday morning, November 29, 2013, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mrs. Schatz, the former Eleanor Elaine Frahm was born April 22, 1924, in Clinton, Iowa, to Carl and Mae (Daley) Frahm. She attended Clinton Schools. On September 23, 1940, Eleanor was united in marriage to Lavern Schatz at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton. The couple resided in DeWitt all of their married life. In her earlier years, she worked at the former McDonald Cleaners and waitressed at Martha's Cafe both in DeWitt. Her husband LaVern preceded her in death on October 28, 1995.

She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt since 1947. Eleanor was an active member of Ladies Aid, Ruth Circle and Prayer Warriors. She also was also a longtime member of the Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 Auxiliary. Eleanor enjoyed crocheting and embroidery work.

Survivors include children, Eugene "Gene" (Kathleen) Schatz of Dothan, Alabama, Karen (Jerry) Hodge of Eldridge, Iowa, and Elaine Spainhower of Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Dawn Schatz, Darin (Lauren) Schatz, Michele Brevik, Chris Brevik, E. J. McDonnell, Mike Spainhower and Laura (Jay) Husky; great-grandchildren, Nevan and Kerrigan, Rachel, Emma and Zoey, Jay and Caitlin; brothers, Merritt (Francene) Quick of Bettendorf, Iowa, John "Jake" Quick of Jamul, California, and Wayne (Arlette) Quick of Clinton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jean Quick of Morrison, Illinois, Milton (Delores) Schatz of Eldridge, Iowa, Harlan (Ella) Schatz of California, Ruth (Don) Redman of Arizona and Margaret Newell of Manchester, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by brothers, Don, Joe and Allen Quick; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Shirley Quick, Linda Quick, Alice Schatz, Carolyn Schatz, Ervin (Frieda) Schatz, Berdina (Lewis) Rutledge, Velma (Bill) Thorndike and Orville Newell; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Church with the Rev. Ron Rafferty officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be donated to Grace Lutheran Church or the DeWitt Veteran's Memorial.
