Harvey Lohse, age 98 of Wheatland, passed away on Tuesday November 19, 2013 at the Wheatland Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 23, 2013 at 10:30 A.M at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland with Reverend John Cofield officiating. Burial will follow at the Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday November 22, 2013 from 4-7 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland.

Harvey was born on July 14, 1915 to Frederick and Cecelia (Larson) Lohse in Durant, Iowa. He married Dorothy Steinke Bowers on December 28, 1964 in Illinois. She died on November 15, 2005.

Harvey moved to South Dakota in 1918 with his father and was a farm boy most of his life. When he was old enough he ran his dad's farm of 700 acres until he came back to Iowa in 1936. He married Margaret Dryer in 1936 and started farming for himself in 1945 near Durant. He sold out in 1958 and started carpenter work in 1960 until he retired.

Harvey had many jobs in his lifetime, including: being a farm hand; truck driver; warehouse moving van driver; dairy farm operator; lots of farming jobs; cutting wood for a coal company; milk truck driver; construction worker; Deputy Marshal of Wilton; firefighter; and served on the consistory of his church in Wilton for 12 years. He was also a horse shoe player on the Wapsi Ringers for many years.

He is survived by his sons, Eldon (Phyllis) Bowers of Eldridge, Russ (Leanna) Bowers of Plainview, Iowa and Tommy (Kathy) Bowers of Hills, Iowa; daughters, Cecelia Schulz of Iowa City, Pam Fitzgerald of Lowden, and Sandy Rung of Wheatland; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; son, Emmett; daughter, Lynn; six brothers; and one sister.
