Irene M “Pat” Howes age 78 of Clinton passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center North. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July12, 2013 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 11th at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.

Pat was born and raised in Lyons, north of the big tree, on April 24, 1935, the daughter of Hans and Matilda (Lass) Hinz. She married Clyde Howes on May 24, 1958 in Clinton. Clyde passed away on April 19, 1980. Pat was a former elementary school librarian at St. Boniface School and later worked in the Dietary Services at Samaritan Hospital, later Mercy Medical Center, for 27 years. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. Pat enjoyed reading, walking and cooking.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Anna (Keith) Doucette of Clinton; her son, John Howes of Clinton; four grandchildren, Chevelle (Eric) Sopkin of Portland, OR, Cassandra Clark, Serenity Howes and Aliyah Anderson of all of Clinton; a great grandson, Isaac Sopkin of Portland; four brothers, Albert “Gene” (Bernadette) Hinz of Clinton, Donald (Judy) Hinz of Clinton, Gary Hinz of Mora, MN and Richard Hinz of Muscatine; two sisters, Darlene (Mike) Jennings of Minneapolis and Rita Hinz and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Elmer Harris, Larry Lyman and Robert Hinz and four sisters, Delores Stebbins, Elsie Robbins, Lucy Snodgrass and Betty Harris Wright.
