Robert F. “Bob” Jones, Sr. age 79 of Clinton passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Eagle Point Nursing Home, Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Pape Funeral Home and from 1:30 P.m. until the service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Justin Earl, Lindsey Fieser, Javin Huntley, Joseph Whitaker and Jason and Colin Jones.

Bob was born in Clinton on May 10, 1934, the son of Charles F. and Henrietta (Vining) Jones. He joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Southerland as an electrician mate, 2nd class, during the Korean War. He graduated from Clinton High School following his time in the service and received his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Ambrose. He served with the Clinton Police Department for 23 years as a detective, juvenile officer, polygraph and hypnosis examiner and as Chief of Police from 1982 until 1984. He started the Alateen Program while on the force and served as President of the Iowa State Police Association. He retired in 1987.

Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints where he served in many positions. He and Virginia served a Church Mission to Germany in 1990 and 1991 and they taught refugee’s from 21 countries. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Jerry Rabiner Boys Ranch in Fort Dodge, Co-founder of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club and had been named the Jaycees Iowa Young Man of the Year.

Family was of upmost importance to Bob. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, working in the yard, golfing, bowling, traveling, wood carving, building doll houses and sculpturing lead figurines.

Bob is survived by his wife Virginia; four children, Robert F. Jones, Jr. of Fulton, Becky Henderson of Milan, Teresa (Steve) White of Clinton and Patrick (Cheryl) Jones of Topeka, KS; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and his half-sister, Rosemary. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nicholas in January of 2013; and an infant sister, Jacqueline. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors.
