Melba Ruth “Honey” Kunde, 97, formerly of Calamus and Maquoketa, Iowa, died Saturday morning, July 13, 2013 at Clover Ridge Place, Maquoketa.
The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, in the Funeral Home. Pastor David Glavin will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be David Olson, Vince Aragon, Karen Eschbach, Gay Storlie, Allan Elias and Bob Wirth.

Memorials may be designated to Jackson County Humane Society, Hospice of Jackson County or the charity of your choice.

She was born, October 3, 1915, at home on the farm in Welton Township, Iowa. She attended Welton Consolidated School. Melba was employed for a number of years at the garment factory in Clinton, Iowa. She later ran the family farm with her brother, Arnold, at rural Calamus. They later farmed at rural Maquoketa and in retirement, she resided at Clover Ridge.

Melba was a woman of faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Maquoketa. She was an extremely hard worker and had a great love for the land that she farmed as well as outdoor activities, such as camping, fishing and traveling. She was an avid reader and enjoyed BINGO, needlework, etc. Melba’s greatest joy in life was being with people and through her kindness and generosity she was a true inspiration to all those around her. Her warm smile gave everyone a sense of well-being and happiness.

Surviving are a nephew, Jim (Glenda) Moore of Columbia, Missouri; cousins and other relatives. Melba will also be truly missed by her friends, caregivers and church family.

Preceding Melba in death were her parents; sisters, Helen Moore and Leona Hansen and brothers, Bob, Orville and Arnold.

Sincere thanks are expressed to the staff of Clover Ridge and Hospice of Jackson County for the loving care provided to Melba over the years.
