Marvene (Mrs. Darrell) Spence, 84, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Friday afternoon, July 12, 2013 at Grand Haven Memory Care Unit in Eldridge, Iowa.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 16th. A Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home. Pastor Nikki Ross Bishop will officiate. Interment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Grand Haven Memory Unit.

Mrs. Spence, the former Marvene Faye Baker was born August 4, 1928 in Waterloo, Iowa, to Ernest and Mae (Ingalls) Baker. She was a graduate of LaPorte City High School. On September 17, 1947, Marvene was united in marriage to Darrell Gene Spence in LaPorte City. The couple resided in Hudson, Iowa, for a time until moving to DeWitt, in 1970. In addition to being a homemaker, Marvene worked at the former Rabe’s Greenhouse in DeWitt. Her husband preceded her in death on September 20, 2007.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, card clubs and spending time with her family.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Susan Spence of Alpha, Illinois; Kipp and Sandy Spence of Silvis, Illinois, Rod Spence and Shavaun Kidd of Milan, Illinois, and Shawn and Susan Spence of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Ryan Spence, Brenda Spence, Jeremy Lueders, Wendy Fisher, Kevin (Jill) Lueders, Nicholas Spence, Nathan (Angel) Spence and Kristiana Powers, Brandon Butters, Brittney Powers and Carter Spence; great-grandchildren, Tavian and Paxton Spence, Brianna, Jacan, Tieryn and Xander Lueders and Jasmine and Gage Lueders; a sister, Bonnie Hammersly of LaPorte, City.

In addition to her husband, Marvene was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Opal Miller.
