Garry L. Dithmart age 79 of Clinton passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at his daughter’s home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dan, Steve, Shane and Jim Bark, Jason Maresca, and Kenny Stage. Honorary casket bearers will be Leland and Paul Thompson, Bob Nixon, Bob Melvin, Palmer Johnson, Gary Morris and James Clary, Sr.

Garry was born in Clinton on September 16, 1933, the son of Andrew and Edith (Wenzel) Dithmart. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1951. Garry married Mary Ellen Bark on May 3, 1952 in Clinton. Mary Ellen passed away in 1990. He was employed at Clinton Corn Processing Company, retiring in 1974. He was a lifetime member of the international Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers. He played football in High School and was a Golden Gloves boxer. He coached Little League baseball. He enjoyed watching sports, especially tennis and football, watching westerns on TV and listening to music, going to casinos and traveling to Las Vegas, hunting, feeding the birds and squirrels, and was known to drown a few worms while fishing.

Garry is survived by three children; Dorothy (William) Jones of Clinton, Jerry Allen Dithmart of Cedar Rapids, and Thomas (Juanita) Dithmart of Clinton; three grandchildren, Jill (Brian) Everett, Garry A. Dithmart and Thomas Dithmart II; a great grandson, Dean Blinkinsop; a brother, Robert (Vicky) Dithmart of Clinton; a sister, Jean (Robert) Crider of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Bark of Camanche and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers, Jack and Dale. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
