LaVonne Ann Yappen, 83, of Monticello, Iowa, and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Thursday morning, June 24, 2010, at her home in Monticello, Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 P.M., Monday, June 28, 2010, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. Service Time on Monday, June 28, 2010, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be at the Andrew, Iowa Cemetery.

LaVonne Ann Haley was born on April 29, 1927 in Sabula, Iowa, to Martin Haley and Nettie Hazel (Coon) Haley. She was educated in Sabula schools. She married Clifton Leo Yappen on June 28, 1944 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1999.

LaVonne had worked for the Sabula Telephone Company, Savanna Ordinance Depot, Clinton Engines, and Hoffman Eggs. She also farmed with her husband in the Andrew area. They retired to Maquoketa.

LaVonne had lived in the Maquoketa area all of her life. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew. She enjoyed gardening and reading.

LaVonne is survived by her children, David (Karen) Yappen of San Antonio, TX, Sharon (Richard) Cornelius of Monticello, IA, Linda (Randy) Cox of Marion, IA, Patrick Yappen of Anamosa, IA and Carol (Joseph) Engler of Coggon, IA; 12 grandchildren, Annette (Jason) Shearier of Lake Mills, WI, Jonathan Cornelius of Ely, IA, Jeffrey Yappen of Maquoketa, IA, Michael (Alicia) Yappen of Delmar, IA, Wade Yappen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Robert Petersen of Marion, IA, Patrick Petersen of Lakeview, OR, Dorrin (James) Graves of Vinton, IA, Sara Kessens of Marion, IA, Corey (Kayla) Brown of Clinton, IA, Andrew Engler of Clinton, IA, and Noah Engler of Coggon, IA; 1 step-grandchild, Amanda (Jeremy) Meyers of Solon, IA; 14 great-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald “Skip” Haley of Greeley, PA; and a sister-in-law, Edna Tracy of Baldwin, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, Jody Lynn on October 2, 1965, and 4 brothers, Kenneth, Martin, James and Donald.
