The Clinton Herald Friday October 31, 1975 p 14 John "Jack" Mayer, 57, 706 First St., Camanche, died at his home Thursday afternoon. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Spirit Lake. Visitation will be Sinday evening at the Donovan-Leyson Funeral Home and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Spirit Lake. Visitation in Clinton will be at the Snell-Smith Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He was born Dec. 18, 1917 in Clinton the son of Carl and Tillie Wagner Mayer and married Dorothy Willard Dec. 9, 1942 in Spirit Lake. Mr. Mayer was a member of the Camanche Church of the Visitation. A Marine veteran of World War II, graduate of Lyons High School and the University of Northern Iowa. He ws a special education teacher for Camanche and DeWitt school systems. Mr. Mayer lived in Camanche for 14 years. He is survived by hisi widow; a daughter, Marsha, at home; two sons, James, at home, and John Jr., Clinton; his mother, Council Bluffs; and a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Ahrends, Council Bluffs. He was preceded in death by his father.
