Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and recently great-great grandmother, Eva Nyquist, passed away peacefully at the Gunnison Valley Hospital in Gunnison, Colorado on April 13th, 2013, at the age of 94, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be 10:30am Saturday, April 20th, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.

Eva Mae Oliver Nyquist was born August 10th, 1918 in Clinton Iowa to Robert and Ruth Oliver. Eva was the fourth of eight children.

Eva was married to the love of her life, Kenneth Nyquist, for 72 long wonderful years, who preceded her in death in February, 2011. Ken and Eva started their life together on October 1st, 1938. They started a family soon thereafter with their son Chuck and two years later their daughter Marilyn.

Eva made a career at volunteering her valuable time to help others. She volunteered 4,000+ hours over 32 years at Jane Lamb and Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility. There she mended sheets, clothes, attached buttons and any other task requiring someone's caring attention. She also volunteered at the Skyline Center in the old Shick Complex in Lyons helping mentally challenged children. Later in life, she volunteered her time to Mt. Alverno Senior Center. There she visited patients and helped with the center's patient activities like running the weekly bingo game. She always enjoyed meeting and talking with the people she helped. Over the years she made a lot of special friends.

Riverside Chapel and her church family were very important to Eva. She gave freely of her time helping with the needs of her church. Eva was honored in her church newsletter, "When Riverside's photo albums need to be updated, there's Eva. When liturgists need to be lined up, there's Eva. When home communion needs to be served, there's Eva. The list is endless but her energy persists."

Eva loved to bowl. It was a passion she shared with Ken, something they did for many years. She loved to go dancing with Ken at the Moose Hall. They especially enjoyed dancing to the Big Band music of their day.

Eva cherished her family most of all. She enjoyed family picnics at Eagle Point quite often since she had so many family members that lived in the area. She took an active interest in her children's schooling. She was PTA President at one time. She enjoyed every aspect of being a wife, mother and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son Chuck, her husband Ken, her parents, five siblings: Eleanor, Marion, Lucille, Bob, Phyllis, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Tom) Marshall of Gunnison, Colorado, her sister Margaret (Warren) Young of Clinton, Iowa, her brother Ed Oliver of Zephyr Hills, Florida, three grandchildren, Debbie (Dana) Cochran, Kevin (Christy) Marshall, Todd (Yvonne) Marshall, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Eva spent the last two years living in Gunnison, Colorado, close to her daughter.
