Jennie May Mullett was born July 6, 1868, near Oxford, Iowa, where she lived until she was 14 years of age. Her mother died when she was 11 years old. The responsibility of the home fell to her and for three years she remained with her father, caring for her younger brother and sister, then for four years she lived with Mr. Spelly in Monticello, Iowa, where she united with the Congregational church and where she received her school education. At the age of 18 she moved to Marion, Iowa and made her home with Mrs. Thomas McKean until the time of her marriage to Levi Ellis Fields, Sept. 5, 1889, at Monmouth, Rev. J. R. A. Haner of the M. E. church officiating. Following their marriage they moved to a farm near Lost Nation, but for the last 17 years they have lived on their farm near Monmouth, where Mrs. Fields, after a lingering illness, passed away, August 16, 1918, aged 50 years, 1 month and 10 days. She was a member of the R. N. A. and O. E. S. Mrs. Fields leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband and son Raymond of Thompson, Illinois and her daughter, Myrtle, a trained nurse who cared for her during her illness. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Millsap of Wyoming and one brother, Charles Mullett of Oelwein, Iowa, and one grandson, Russell Raymond Fields. The funeral was held at the Smithtown church Sunday afternoon, Rev. John Dawson officiating. The music was furnished by the Monmouth choir. Interment was made in the Smithtown church cemetery.
