Mrs. Frances M. Dosland, 95, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Sunday evening, January 6, 2013, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Frances Maxine Dosland was born August 27, 1917, on the family farm south of Wheatland, Iowa, to Carl and Esther (Luthans) Hamdorf. She graduated from Wheatland Public School. On December 10, 1936, Frances was united in marriage to Max A. Dosland. The couple owned and operated Max's Grocery Store in Calamus, Iowa, until Max was called to serve his country in World War II. In later years, the couple traveled extensively, visiting Army Air Force friends. Max preceded Fran in death March 31, 1991.

She was a longtime member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Calamus, the American Legion Auxiliary, Wapsi Oaks and Springbrook Country Clubs, Elks and belonged to Eastern Star for over 60 years. Fran was recognized as a very spirited dramatic declamatory speaker for which she received several awards. She was an avid golfer and Bridge player. Fran had a deep affection for her family and friends and made new friends wherever she went.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Hamdorf of Clinton, Iowa; nephews, Dr. Kent (Sarah) Hamdorf of The Villages, Florida, Jon Hamdorf of Mystic Connecticut, and Barry (Barbara) Hamdorf of Carmel, Indiana; great-nieces, Jennifer (Chris) Torrens and their children, Maxwell and Annabelle, Anne (Clintt) Cobb and their daughters, Ryan and Reese, and Leslie (Elsworth) Joseph and their son, Isejah; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Max, Fran was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald H. "Bud" Hamdorf.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, in the Funeral Home. The Reverend Sarah E. Kretzmann will officate and burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Camanche, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

The family would like to extend their most sincere appreciation to the staff at Westwing for the loving care provided to Fran.
