Mr. Richard B. Bowman, 83, of DeWitt, died Wednesday morning, January 9, 2013 at home.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2013. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, in the Church. The Reverend Chris Minor-Heilig will officiate. Military rites will follow at the Church. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be made to the Church or Genesis Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Michael Bowman, Judd Bowman, Andy Bowman, Scott Thoma, Brandon Anderson, Scott VanHoutte, Curt Buckles and Tony Lashelle. Honorary pallbearers will be Cassandra VanHoutte, Monica Anderson, Elizabeth Thoma, Linissa Bowman, Lara Buckles, Liana Bowman, Kara Thoma, Holly Bowman, and Sarah Thoma.

Richard Bennett Bowman was born November 1, 1929, at Emeline, Iowa, to Edelman and Zelda (Rorah) Bowman. He graduated from Davenport Central High School and served in the Navy from 1949 until 1953. On May 16, 1953, Richard was united in marriage to Arlyn Dodge at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Nebraska. He farmed in the DeWitt area with his father for many years. Dick was employed by Oscar Mayer and Dubuque Packing as a livestock buyer for over 30 years. He went on to work for Farm Service of DeWitt until retirement in 2008.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. Dick was a dedicated family man who loved work and time spent with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife, Arlyn; children and their spouses, Tyra and Terry Miller of Lynn Center, Illinois, Don and Jane Bowman of Delmar, Iowa, and Richard and Cindy Bowman of McCausland, Iowa; a son-in-law, Chris Thoma of Durant, Iowa; grandchildren, Cassandra (Scott) VanHoutte, Monica Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Scott (Kara) Thoma, Elizabeth (Sarah) Thoma, Linissa Bowman, Lara (Curt) Buckles, Liana Bowman, Michael (Holly) Bowman, Judd Bowman and Andrew Bowman; step-grandsons, James (Tracy) Miller and Andrew Miller; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Elmegreen of Eldridge, Iowa, Lowell Bowman of Sun City West, Arizona, Robert (Sylvia) Bowman of Waverly, Iowa, and Mary Jo (Phil) Brooks of Yuba City, California; a sister-in-law, Janet Bowman of Eldridge.

Preceding Richard in death were his daughter, Carol Thoma; his parents; a brother, Ronald and sisters, Bernadine Rasche and Betty Beck.
