Clinton, Iowa - Chester A. Birdsley age 91 of Clinton, died Tuesday May 15, 2012 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday May 19th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday 10:00 am until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Clinton Humane Society. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Chester was born on Sept. 9, 1920 in Clinton, the son of Chester and Mary (Juber) Birdsley. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1942-1945. Chester married Clarabell Craft on Jan. 8, 1949 in Clinton. He worked at Clinton Corn Processing for many years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Clinton Community Congregational Church UCC. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and going for walks.
Chester is survived by his wife, Clarabell of Clinton; two daughters, Alice (John) Keller of Davenport and Sheila (Bill) Geltz of Clinton; a son, Steven (Diane) Birdsley of Clinton; 6 grandchildren, Katrina, Jessica, Amanda, Eric, Scott, Ashley; and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.
