Lynette E. Koons, 85, of Clinton, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Eagle Point Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at First Congregational Church with Dr. Donald Batz officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Koons, Bryant Koons, Eugene Gilbert, Larry Gilbert, Randall Gilbert, Caroline Koons, and Charlotte Mueller. Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.
Lynette Esther Gilbert was born on October 20, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Glen and Esther (Nelson) Gilbert. She married Robert G. Koons, Sr., on September 1, 1946 in Clinton; he died February 18,2010.
Lynette was a 1944 graduate of Clinton High School, and attended Mt.St.Clare College on a scholarship. During WWII, she was employed as a medical secretary at Schick Hospital. She was a homemaker and tireless volunteer worker from the 1950s until the present. Past works of service include offices in JayCettes, Junior Women's Club and Rainbow Girls Board. She volunteered at Skyline Developmental Center as a teaching assistant, and served a term as head buyer for the Agatha Auxiliary hospital gift shop. Always a strong advocate of higher education for women, she proudly served as president of her P.E.O. chapter. Lynette was a member of First Congregational Church, Daughters of the Nile, and Clinton Order of Eastern Star #65. She was a gourmet cook and a gracious hostess who enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She approached life with positive energy and a sense of humor. Most of all she loved her family. Lynette is survived by two daughters: Julia (Ed) Frederick of St. Augustine Beach, Florida, and Martha
Koons of Walnut, California, and her son, Robert G. Koons II, of Clinton; four grandchildren: Charlotte Mueller, Caroline Koons, Bryant Koons, and Kira Koons.
Lynette was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law Steven Wood, her husband, and her
daughter-in-law Jane Koons.
Memorials can be made to First Congregational Church or the Clinton Humane Society.
