Shirley J. Ketelsen, 83, of Clinton, died Friday March 9, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.

Funeral Services will be 10:00am, Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Chancy Lutheran Church, Clinton with Rev. Fred Schauer officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tyson Ketelsen, Kyle Ketelsen, Kevin Kaszinski, Mark Ketelsen, Larry Cramer, Dennis Langrehr, and Christian Sommer. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory.

Shirley Jean Bier was born on June 29, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of William and Esther (Jensen) Bier. She was a 1946 graduate of Clinton High School. She married Raymond Ketelsen on June 3, 1951 in Clinton; he later died on January 7, 2005.

Shirley was employed with Northwestern Bell, Clinton National Bank, and the Clerk of District Court in Clinton retiring in 1989.

Shirley was an active member of Chancy Lutheran Church for more than 60 years where she taught Sunday school and served on the church council. She was also a Mercy Auxiliary volunteer for 32 years and was active in organizing the class reunions for the class of 1946. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and reading books on spiritual growth.

Shirley is survived by her daughter: Deborah Kaszinski of Clinton, her son: Robert (Debra) Ketelsen of Clinton; 5 grandchildren: Tyson Ketelsen, Kyle Ketelsen, Kortney Ketelsen, Melissa Kaszinski (Christian) Sommer, Kevin (Stephanie) Kaszinski; 2 step-grandchildren: Shannan Cozzolino, Tony (Abby) Cozzolino; 2 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; her sisters: Artie (Ken) Ketelsen of Clinton and Sharon Kraft of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Joan.

Memorials can be made to Chancy Lutheran Church or Mercy Auxiliary.
