Clinton, Iowa - James Kindstrom Durgin, Jr., age 92, of Clinton, passed away Friday Feb. 3, 2012 at Mercy North Medical Center, Clinton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Monday 4 - 7 pm at the Pape Funeral Home, where a Rose Croix service will be held at 6:30 pm. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ali Aydin Dogruyusever, Mathew Eccles, David Johnson, Randy Johnson, Allen Luckritz, and Rudy Morgan. Jim was born on Oct. 31, 1919 in Anamosa, IA, the son of James Kindstrom and Agnes (Stanaway) Durgin, Sr. He served ten years in the US Navy during WWII, where he achieved Chief Quarter Master and served in all three theaters of war. When discharged in 1946 he settled in Clinton. He married Pauline Wolfe on September 9, 1943 in New York City.
Jim was a carpenter by trade, however spent many years in various Industries. He was co-owner of Custom-Pak, Inc. of Clinton. Jim was a member of the Blue Lodge of Emulation Lodge #255, Clinton Scottish Rite, and the Kaaba Shrine of Davenport. He also was a member of the Clinton Isaak Walton League and was past president of the Clinton Kiwanis Club. In 1968, he was named the Clinton Boss of the Year. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and was an avid bowler, where he was inducted in the Clinton Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
Jim is survived by his wife, Pauline of Clinton; a son, Richard James Durgin; a daughter, Sherry Lynne (Mehmet Ali) Dogruyusever of Urbandale; four grandchildren, Ali Aydin Dogruyusever, Dilek (Mat) Eccles, Jessica Durgin, and Richard Durgin II; a great grandson, Finn Eccles; and a sister, Nelda Powers of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Henry and Robert Durgin.
