Mr. Albert R. Smith, 94, of DeWitt, died Monday morning, February 6, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt.

Mr. Smith was born Albert Robert Smith, July 20, 1917 on the family farm in rural DeWitt. His parents were Earl D. and Nellie (Atkinson) Smith. Albert farmed the family farm all of his life. On February 22, 1970, he was united in marriage to Verna Wangelin Hazen in Calamus, Iowa.

Albert was a member of the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. He greatly enjoyed working in his shop and had a real talent of designing and redesigning machinery and tools for his personal use.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 42 years, Verna, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

Preceding Albert in death were brothers, Harvey and Roy Smith and sisters, Irma Greve, Hazel Schnepel and Esther Sellnau.

Visitation will be at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Church. The Rev. Chuck Kelsey will officiate with burial at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Dale Greve, Steve Sellnau, Allen Sellnau, Ron Sellnau, Bob Smith and Bill Kruse.
