DILLMAN BENTON DIES AT CLINTON HOSPITAL
Dillman Benton, 77, passed away Sunday morning, September 17, 1933, at 2:50 o'clock, at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton following an operation
Dillman Benton, son of George and Mary Benton, was born in Washington township, Clinton County, April 23, 1856. He was united in marriage to Ada Coverdale February 10, 1880. To this union two children were born, Alma Benton Peterson, who was taken by death a year ago and Richard E. Benton, who lives on a farm near Elwood. He leaves to mourn his departure, the wife who has been a shut-in for a number of years; six grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.Mr. Benton was a member of the Methodist church of Maquoketa; also a member of the Masonic lodge where he was always willing to fill any office. He was very faithful to his home and wife, especially during her shut-in days. Mr. Benton enjoyed good health until July 4th when he was stricken with a gall stone attack which never responded to treatment and he was forced to go to Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton and submit to an operation from which he was never able to recover and passed away Sunday morning. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist Church, Rev. H. H. Dill officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.
