The Clinton Herald Tuesday January 24, 1871 p 4 House of Mourning Sadness reigns supreme in the home of our neighbor and friend, Andrew Bather, caused by the sudden departure of Martha A., his beloved wife, whom we believe to be with Christ. Mrs. Bather was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Beaumont, amoung our most respected citizens, and was 23 years of age. About one year and a half ago, Mr. and Mrs. Bather were joined in the prospect of many years to be spent in a home made happy by love's endearments; but to-day the husband is in the midst of a gloom which naught but the hand of death to a young wife and mother, can bring. Bereft thus early and so suddenly, in the midst of anticipated brighter joys, with a motherless child that had not yet lived to see the caressing smiles, and taste the tender care of that mother's love, Mr. Bather can but bend with a bleeding heart under the sad affliction. To-morrow afternoon, at 2 o'clock, the friends of the family are invited to assemble at the house of affliction, on Camanche avenue, to perform their last act of respect, in the burial services of the deceased. On Sunday next, at the usual hour, the funeral sermon will be preached in the Baptist church, by Rev. C.H. Remington, pastor. Although still in the spring time of usefulness, with the greater portion of life's joys before her, to make her stay upon earth sweet, the deceased had made that preparation of heart and possessed those Christian virtues, which enabled her to meet death with smiles of victory.
