Blanche Corrine Atkinson Behr
(April 5, 1919 - July 4, 2009)

Blanche C. (Mrs. Raymond) Behr, 90, DeWitt, died Saturday evening, July 4, 2009 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mrs. Behr was born Blanche Corrine Atkinson, April 5, 1919 in DeWitt, to William and Lucetta (Smith) Atkinson. She married Raymond Leonard Behr, February 26, 1947 in DeWitt. In addition to being a homemaker, Blanche worked as an underwriter for Iowa Mutual Insurance and farmed near Low Moor. She retired from the food services department with Central Community Schools, DeWitt, in 1981 following 12 years of service. Ray preceded Blanche in death on October 8, 2004.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, and its group, WSCS, the Order of Eastern Star, the DeWitt Historical Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Blanche was a very talented artist, doing various rural paintings.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Gayla and Gene Volz, Alexander, Arkansas; a son and daughter-in-law, Kent Charles and Teri Behr, Sioux City; grandchildren, Jessi Ann Volz, Korey (Wendy) Behr, Kyle (Shelly) Behr, Brittni Behr and Ryan Behr; great-grandchildren, Jessi, Trenton, Shelby, Kameron and Taylor; nieces and nephews.

Preceding Blanche in death in addition to her husband were her parents, brothers, Melvin, Arthur and LeRoy and sisters, Wilma Clubb and Ethel Fatchett.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 in the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Chuck Kelsey officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Korey Behr, Dan Behr, Dennis Behr, Melvin Atkinson, Dan Kuchenbrod, George Malavolti, Bill Fatchett, Mike Taylor and in absentia, TSgt Kyle Behr. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Behr, John Galitz, Orville Semer, Ivan Barber, Roger Hill, Daryl Evers and Fred Behr.
