Deceased Name: JOHN A. BURKENCLINTON, Iowa - John A. Burken, 67, of Carthage, Mo., formerly of Clinton, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Carthage.
Services were held Friday at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage. The Knell Mortuary, Carthage, was in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Sept. 2, 1933, in Clinton, son of Arnold and Louise Burken. He married Mary Arlene Murphy, of Dubuque, on Dec. 28, 1957.
He made his home in Carthage for the past 24 years. He retired as an accountant from Southwest Missouri Cable in January 2000.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene Burken, of Carthage; seven children, Greg Burken and Michael Burken, both of Carthage, Jolene Thompson, of Springfield, Mo., Susan Williams, of Hope Mills, N.C., Tony Burken, of Emporia, Kan., Jennifer Burken, of Joplin, Mo., and Kathleen Burken, at home; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to the Tri-County Cerebral Palsy Center, Carthage.
