James Leo "Jim" Gannon, 80, Delmar, Iowa, died Monday morning, June 13, 2011 at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.

Jim was born to Leo and Delores (O'Toole) Gannon in Clinton, Iowa, on September 11, 1930. He was a 1950 graduate of Welton High School. Jim served his country in the Army from 1953-54. He married Phyllis Johnson on August 17, 1957 and she preceded him in death on August 10, 1960. On September 3, 1966, Jim was united in marriage to Madonna Wagemester at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The couple farmed for many years at rural Welton. Jim was also employed by Aurora Casket Company, Farmers Supply, PCI Construction and area farmers. He also raised American Paint Ponies.

He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Welton, and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim was also a member of the Spragueville American Legion Post #590, the former Clinton County Extension Council, was a leader for the Welton Junior Farmers 4-H Club, was a member of the Clinton County Cattleman and Pork Producers and showed Carlot Cattle for years. Jim was a staunch Irishman and was very proud of his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family dearly, spending time with them and attending grandchildren's activities. Jim was an avid horseman and antique collector. He took meticulous care of his lawn and loved going to auctions. He will always be loved and missed by many.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Madonna; children and their spouses, David and Debbie Gannon of Bettendorf, Iowa, Dean and Dawn Gannon of Wheatland, Iowa, Deanna and Eric Martens of Wyoming, Iowa, and Duane and Deb Gannon of Maquoketa, Iowa; grandchildren, Tiffany (Mike) Abbott, Trevor Gannon, Trina (Tony) Vicary, Chandler Gannon, Gabi and Alex Martens, Shawn Yaddof and Tara (Brandon) Hansen; great-grandchildren, Tristina, Baily and Spencer Abbott, Elijah Gannon, Emma Garien and Carver Hansen; siblings, Mary Massey, Napa, California, John "Jack" (Jeanne) Gannon, Ankeny, Iowa, Tom (Judy) Gannon, DeWitt, Iowa, and Rita (Ray) Enters, Brookfield, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Susie Gannon, Marion, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Lucy.

Preceding Jim in death in addition to his wife, Phyllis were his parents, a brother, Dick and an infant sister, Sarah.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 in St. Anne's Catholic Church, Welton. The Rev. Fr. David Brownfield will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be designated for the charity of the donor's choice.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Gannon, Larry Roeder, Greg Gannon, Bob Gannon, Joel Frost and Loras Frost. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
