John Thomas Ryan, 83, DeWitt, died Monday morning, May 23, 2011 in Aurora House at Weslaco, Texas.

John was born October 25, 1927 in DeWitt. He served in the Army during the Korean Era. On June 1, 1949, John was united in marriage to Jane Wallace in Maquoketa. He owned and operated John T. Ryan Masonary and Contracting and was also a Rural Mail Carrier.

He was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 both of DeWitt. In later years John enjoyed playing golf as well as pool, cards and working jigsaw puzzles. He loved his family dearly and times spent with them.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Jane; children, Tina Marie Hansen and her husband, Roger, El Granada, California, and Michael John Ryan, Champagne, Illinois; six grandchildren; a brother, Joe Ryan and his wife, Mary, Cedar Rapids; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters and a brother.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt, (not Schultz Funeral home as previously announced) from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011 in the Church, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly presiding. Burial and military rites by the DeWitt American Legion will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt.
